The New England Patriots traveled to MetLife stadium to take on the New York Jets and picked up their first win of the season. This is the 15th straight win against the New York Jets dating all the way back to 2015.

Both teams after the game now have a record of 1-2 and are both tied for last place in the AFC East.

Patriots Safety Jabrill Peppers said postgame “Always good to come away with a win, especially against the Jets.”

New England started the scoring in the first quarter with rookie Kicker Chad Ryland hitting a 48 yard field goal to give the Patriots a 3-0 lead. The Patriots early in the second quarter scored the first touchdown of the game with a 58 yard pass to Pharaoh Brown from Mac Jones. The touchdown gave New England a 10-0 lead on New York.

Mac Jones spoke on the touchdown postgame saying

“Yeah, it was just a little play-action play and we kind of knew it was going to work and he made a great catch and we worked on that in practice and it worked in the game, so that’s what we want”

Jones only had that one passing touchdown on the day while also throwing for 201 yards. Brown ended his day with two catches for 71 yards to go along with the receiving touchdown.

Jets kicker Greg Zuerlein got his team on the board before halftime with a 52 yard field goal bringing the Jets within one score.

Coming out of the half Ryland hit a 51 yard field goal to give New England a 13-3 lead.

Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick spoke on Ryland performance postgame

“It was a tough day to kick. Bunch of long ones. The weather wasn’t great. I thought he hit the ball pretty well. Timing on a couple of them could’ve been better. We need to have a cleaner operation, but I thought he showed mental toughness coming back and making that kick in the third quarter after the one at the half that just wasn’t a great operation. But did a good job for us.”

The Jets responded in the fourth quarter when they finished off a 13 play 87 yard drive with a one yard rushing touchdown from Nick Bawden to bring the score to 13-10.

New York got a chance to take the lead just before the two minute warning but towards their own endzone quarterback Zach Wilson was sacked by Matthew Judon for a safety. Judon’s sack gave New England a 15-10 lead.

Despite a last hail mary attempt by the Jets, the Patriots secured their first win of the season.

New England will stay on the road as next week they travel to Dallas to take on the Cowboys. The game is on Sunday October 1 with kickoff scheduled for 4:25PM EST
