The Connecticut Sun held strong with the third best record in the league and put a stop to the Los Angeles Sparks six game win streak.
Six Suns players scored ten or more points in the win with Alyssa Thomas leading the way with 17 points.
Thomas added 10 rebounds and 8 assists to her 17 points which made her two assists shy of a triple-double. Thomas still got her 25th double-double of the season which leads the league.
Olivia Nelson-Ododa also got a double-double for the Sun with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Rebecca Allen was the second highest scorer for Connecticut with 14 points. DeWanna Bonner and Natisha Hiedeman each chipped in with 12 points while Tiffany Hayes scored 11.
For Los Angeles Azura Stevens led the Sparks in scoring with 17 points. Stevens tied Thomas with 17 points for the game’s highest scorer.
Layshia Clarendon and Nneka Ogwumike were the only other Sparks players with more than ten points. Clarendon put up 13 points while Ogwumike had 11 in the loss.
The Los Angeles Sparks are now 15-19 and return to action Tuesday against the Chicago Sky.
The Connecticut Sun improved to 24-11 and return to action at the end of the month on August 31. The Sun will defend home court on Thursday when the Phoenix Mercury come to town with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 PM EST.
