The New England Patriots have signed former Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliot to a one-year deal that could be worth up to $6M, per multiple reports. Elliot spent the first six season with Dallas, who drafted him fourth overall in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Elliot rushed for a career-high 1,631 yards and 15 touchdowns his rookie season as he and rookie quarterback Dak Prescott led the Cowboys to a 13-3 record and the top seed in the NFC.
After a career-low six touchdowns in 2020, the Cowboys drafted former Boise State quarterback Tony Pollard and he and Elliot were a dynamic duo in Dallas’ backfield. Elliot rushed for 876 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2022.
The signing for New England gives them a powerful run game that could set up the pass for quarterback Mac Jones. Expect him to be the #1 back in the mix with Rhomandre Stevenson, J.J Taylor and Ty Montgomery.
The Patriots will be on the road for their second preseason game this Saturday as they take on Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
