The Worcester Red Sox hosted the Buffalo Bisons at Polar Park in Worcester, MA on Sunday. This was the final game of the six-game series between the two teams.
Wilyer Abreyu and Bobby Dalbec hit back-to-back home runs, Abreyu’s a two-run homer, in the bottom of the first inning to put the WooSox up 3-0.
Bradley Zimmer would score on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second inning, extending the lead to 4-0. Buffalo added two in the top of the third to cut the lead to 4-2.
After Worcester added two in the bottom of the third, making it a 6-2 game, Orelvis Martinez homered to center field for Buffalo, cutting theclead once more, now to 6-3. Abreu hit his second home run of the game in the bottom of the fourth to make the lead 7-3 for the WooSox.
With the score 8-4 in the bottom of the sixth, Abreu would hit his third home run of the afternoon, another two-run shot, to make the score 10-4.
While Abreu wasn’t able to hit his fourth homer of the game, Dalbec hit his second and Stephen Scott added his own, extending the lead to 12-4 in the bottom of the eighth.
Pitching would close it out for the win. With a Lehigh Valley Ironpigs loss, the Red Sox are now in first place in the IL East division.
They will begin a new series, their second of the homestand, tomorrow night against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders. First pitch is set for 6:45 p.m. ET.
