Even though the Massachusetts Pirates season didn’t end as most fans and the team wanted, it’s fair enough to say rookie running back Jimmie Robinson had himself a great year.

Robinson was the league’s leading rusher with 915 rushing yards. Robinson also led the league in All Purpose Yards with 1,931 yards and had the most rushing yards in one game with 163 along with being tied for most rushing touchdowns in a game with 6.

Robinson also had 34 total touchdowns and 28 rushing touchdowns on the season. I asked him what he graded himself overall this season.

“I grade myself an A  could have did some things different  to get that A+ but I learned” Robinson said

The rookie running back was named to the IFL All-Rookie Team as a running back and on the IFL All-Second Team as a Kick Returner

“It was a great award showing that my hard work has been noticed” Robinson told me and he had a similar statement when he was notified that he was a nominee for the Kenneth Staley Washington Award when he said “It’s an honor to be noticed for the things I do on and off the field.”

Robinson also reflected on his time in Massachusetts telling me “My time in Massachusetts has been good. First time coming here seeing different things I got to meet a good group of guys while here.”

But with the season over I asked Robinson about his offseason plans to which he responded.

“My plan is to go spend time with the family and back in the lab back to work in the weight room and on the field.”

I also mentioned if Robinson had any future plans in football and his next steps to which he told me “My plan is to go spend time with the family and back in the lab back to work in the weight room and on the field.”

The Bethune Cookman product actually spoke about his time at Bethune Cookman and why he chose it telling me “HBCUs get overlooked all the time so going there and changing that picture was one of my goals showing we can play with the best of the best.”

When I asked Robinson what advice would he give other HBCU students he told me “I would tel them keep chasing your dream even when they try to count you out.”
