As the Massachusetts Pirates get ready for their first playoff game this Saturday against the Sioux Falls Storm, they have resigned Quarterback Mike Glass III.
Glass, who has been called an under-the-radar gunslinger, is a former Eastern Michigan University quarterback who has the strong-arm that the Pirates need heading into Saturday night.
Glass finished his 2019 season at EMU throwing for over 4,100 yards and 33 touchdowns and led EMU to a bowl game that year.
“He is a natural leader to make it simple and to the point,” said EMU Head Coach Chris Creighton. “Mike Glass is a guy that, as his coach, I feel blessed and honored to (have) coached him. He is the kind of guy that you hope for in your starting quarterback, you know? He always put the team before his needs and was always there for the guys in the locker room.”
In 2022, Glass III appeared in six games for the Pirates and completed 52 percent of his passes going 29 of 62 for 345 yards with eight touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ran 32 times for 108 yards, scoring a pair of touchdowns.
Pirates QBs Alejandro Bennifield and Anthony Russo, are still listed as active on the Pirates roster. So who will get the nod to be the Pirates starter against the Sioux Falls Storm is still an unknown. But it’s safe to bet that if Pirates Founder, Co-Owner, President, General Manager, & Director of Corporate Sales Jawad Yatim brought back Glass, he brought him back with good reason and if Head Coach
If Head Coach Mark Stoute doesn’t start Glass, you’ll definitely see him step up at some point during the game.
When talking about Glass’ skill set, Coach Creighton said “He is a guy that has all the tools as a passer and the athletic ability to give defenses problems as well as the football IQ and know-how you hope for.”
