WooSox Win Doubleheader Against Buffalo

The Worcester Red Sox would take on the Buffalo Bison in a Saturday Doubleheader.

The Worcester Red Sox have won three of the four games versus Buffalo this past week. 

Buffalo would start game one with three runs in the first inning given the Bison a 3-0 lead.

Two of the three runs would score from a Wynton Bernard double which would be his ninth of the season. Bernard would come around to score the third run courtesy of a Tyler Heineman single.

The Red Sox would go scoreless in the bottom of the first despite Niko Goodrum getting his 32nd walk of the season which leads all of the international league. Goodrum would also steal his fourth base of the season which was the 131st stolen base of his minor league career.

Buffalo would extend their lead to four in the second inning with a Rafael Lantigua would hit his eighth double of the season which would put him in position to score on a sacrifice fly from Davis Schneider.

Earnie Clement would also hit a single for Buffalo before getting caught trying to steal second which was the Bison’s third out of the second inning.

Ronaldo Hernandez would start the bottom of the second inning with a homerun. That would be Hernandez’s third home run of the season and his seventh RBI of the season.

The WoosSox would get three straight out to close out the second inning. Buffalo would then go scoreless in the third inning which was their first scoreless inning of the day.

David Hamilton would be walked which was followed by a Niko Goodrum single to put two runners on base with no outs. 

Wilyer Abreu would single which scored Hamilton and gave the Red Soxs their second run and shorten the lead to two runs.

The fourth inning would go scoreless on both sides and Buffalo wouldn’t score in the fifth which was their third straight scoreless inning.

In the bottom of the fifth David Hamilton would get his ninth walk of the season before gaining his 20th stolen base of the season which leads the International League. That stolen base also was the 142nd stolen base in Hamilton’s minor league career.

After stealing second Hamilton would score his 24th run of the season off a Wilyer Abreu fielder’s choice.

Worcester would find themselves down a run and after a scoreless sixth inning and Buffalo not scoring in the seventh which was their fifth straight scoreless inning, Wilyer Abreu would hit his third home run of the season to tie the game up at four runs a piece.

In the eighth inning the Bison wouldn’t score a run with three straight outs and leave the automatic runner at second base.

Worcester would bat in the bottom of the eighth with Nacriso Crook on second. Thomas Hatch would be intentionally walked to put runners on second and first.

Ronaldo Hernandez would be up to bat and hit the very first pitch for a three run homerun which would give Worcester the 7-4 win scoring seven straight runs.

Hernandez also hit his fourth home run of the season and his second of the game. That was also Hernandez’s tenth RBI with four in the game.

Game two of the double header would see the Bison continue there woes from game one as they would go scoreless in the 

The Red Sox on the other hand would score eight runs in the first four innings.

Niko Goodrum would score the first run of the game and the only run in the first inning as he would be walked for the 33rd time this season. Goodrum scored from a Jorge Alfaro single.

The WooSox would add three more runs in the second inning. After loading the bases with two outs Niko Goodrum would get his 34th walk of the season which let a runner score.

This would cause a pitching change. The change didn’t matter much as Wilyer Abreu would hit a single that would score two runs and bring the lead to 4-0.

In the third inning another three runs would be scored. One from a Narciso Crook Sacrifice Fly and the other two from a Bobby Dalbec home run which was his third of the season.

The only run in the fourth inning would come from a Jorge Alfaro single which would score Wilyer Abreu who hit a double the at bat before.

Both teams would go scoreless in the fifth inning before the Red Sox scored four runs in the sixth inning.

Niko Goodrum hit a double which was followed by a Wilyer Abreu single.

Jorge Alfaro would hit a three run homerun which would give Alfaro five RBIs in the game.

Bobby Dalbec would follow up Alfaro’s home run with a home run of his own which would give the The WooSoxs 12 runs.

The Bison would score one run in the top of the seventh but it wouldn’t be enough as the Worcester Red Sox would sweep the day and improve to 17-15.

The Red Soxs scored 45 runs over the course of the series as they now have won five of the six games versus Buffalo this week.

Ronaldo Hernandez post game would speak to the media saying “We are playing together and for each other.”

The seventh game will take place tomorrow at Polar Park with first pitch to be thrown at 1:05 PM EST.
