Red Sox Beat Cleveland 8-7 In The 10th Inning

The Red Sox Saturday hosted the Cleveland Guardians at Fenway for game two of three, and after losing game one of this series Friday night, the Red Sox claimed an 8-7 win in the tenth inning on Saturday to split the series 1-1. 

In the bottom of the first, with Verdugo on second and Yoshida on first, Devers hit a homer to right 411 feet to make it a 0-3 game. 

Bell, at the top of the second, for Cleveland hit a homer to center 405 feet to make it a 1-3 ballgame. 

Bottom of the fourth, Tapia on second and Valdez hits a double to get Tapia over the plate for the Red Sox to grab their fourth run of the game. Arroyo hit a single to center to get Valdez over the plate for the Sox to get their fifth run of the game. 

Bottom of the sixth, Arroyo made it home on a throwing error for the Sox to get their sixth run of the game. 

Cleveland grabbed four runs at the top of the seventh to make it a 5-6 game, and grabbed another run at the top of the ninth to make it a 6-6 tie game and send it into the tenth inning.

At the top of the tenth Cleveland grabbed their seventh run of the game. But in the bottom of the tenth with Valdez on second, Arroyo hit a single to center to get Valdez over the plate for the Sox to make it a 7-7 tie game, Verdugo finished it off for the Sox hitting a single to left to get Arroyo over the plate, for the Sox to get their 3rd walk-off win this season.

With tonight’s win the Sox Improved to 2-0 in extra-inning games this season.

Alex Verdugo’s walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning was his second walk-off RBI this season and seventh in his career.

Brayan Bello, on Saturday made his longest start of the season, going five, allowing 5-1 and struck out six. Bello has issued 2 BB or fewer in each of his last 7 starts.

Rafael Devers’ 3-run homer in the first inning, was his 149th career homer. He leads the AL in omers with ten and is one behind the MLB lead at the conclusion of today’s game. Devers has hit nine homers and recorded 25 RBI in his last 18 games.

Emmanuel Valdez on Saturday hit an RBI double to extend the Red Sox lead to 4-1 and later scored his first career run in the inning.

Boston and Cleveland will meet again on Sunday for game three of three.
