Boston Red Sox Fall to Pittsburgh Pirates, 7-6

By Stephen Ur –

The Boston Red Sox hosted the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first of a three-game series at Fenway Park in Boston on Monday night. They were coming off winning two of the three games in their opening series against the Baltimore Orioles.

It was an offensive powerhouse in the first inning alone as Boston scored five in the bottom of the first inning after the Pirates scored the game’s first three innings in the top half of the inning.

Three of the Red Sox’s five runs in the first inning were home runs, the first time they’d hit three home runs in one inning since 2019.

Pittsburgh tied the game in the third and took a 7-5 lead in the fourth, and despite the Red Sox scoring another run in the sixth, it wasn’t enough as the Pirates came out on top 7-6 in the end.

Despite the loss, the Red Sox continue to make history. They’ve recorded 10+ hits in each of their first game for the seventh time and the first time since 2016. They also scored six runs on each of their first four games for the fifth time in franchise history, also for the first time since 2016.

The Red Sox and Pirates will meet again tomorrow at Fenway. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET.
