With a 9-4 win on Friday against the Minnesota Twins, the Red Sox are the last remaining undefeated team in 2023 Spring Training. Today’s contest between the Red Sox and Twins was the second of five scheduled meetings in the 2023 Chairman’s Cup. The Red Sox beat the Twins, 4-1, at JetBlue Park on Monday, February 27.
At the top of the first Verdugo, Turner and Casas scored to get Boston an early 3-0 lead.
The bottom of the second Farmer hit a homer for the Twins, 402 feet to left, driving in Gallo to make this a 3-2 game.
But at the top of the third McGuire answered back for the Red Sox with his own homer 395 feet to center right, to drive in Turner, Casas and Dalbec to make it a 7-2 Red Sox lead.
Bottom of the third Vázquez scored for the Twins to make it a 7-3 ballgame.
At the top of the fifth, the pitch was a four-seam fastball, 92 mph, and Casas hit a homer 400 feet to center right to put the Red Sox on top 8-3.
At the top of the eighth, the pictch was a slider, 83 mph, and to seal the 9-3 win for the Red Sox, Hamilton hit a homer 438 feet to left field.
Next up for the Red Sox will be Houston on Saturday at JetBlue Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m., and RHP Nick Pivetta is expected to start followed by RHP Kenley Jansen, RHP Chris Martin, RHP Josh Winckowski, LHP Oddanier Mosqueda, RHP Chase Shugart, and RHP Jake Faria.
