The New England Revolution on Tuesday selected American forward Bobby Wood0 with the first pick in Stage 2 of the 2022 MLS Re-Entry Draft. The Revs got the No. 1 pick from D.C. United in exchange for $50,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money and the No. 9 pick in Tuesday’s Re-Entry Draft.
Wood, 30, has spent the last two seasons with Real Salt Lake, where he recorded five goals in 31 appearances from 2021-22, with an additional tally in the MLS Cup Playoffs.
Last season, Wood started 13 games for RSL, with three goals and one assist.
Before arriving in MLS, the Honolulu, Hawaii native spent his entire 11-year professional career in Germany, where he developed in the 1860 Munich youth academy before debuting the senior team in 2011.
Per MLS roster rules, the Revolution have seven days to make a genuine contract offer to Wood. If an agreement cannot be reached between the drafting club and player, the drafting club holds the Right of First Refusal for that player in MLS.
