Springfield Police Arrest Jose Mendoza On Firearms Charges

Jose Mendoza, 41, of Springfield was arrested Wednesday by the Springfield Police and was charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building, Possession of a Firearm without a FID Card.

On August 10th, 2022 Mendoza allegedly was chasing an individual with a metal bat when an unknown suspect began shooting and struck Mendoza in the leg.  Mendoza then allegedly pulled out a firearm and returned fire into a parking lot. 

Detectives with the Springfield Police Department began investigating and applied for and were granted a warrant for Mendoza’s arrest.

At 8:20 a.m. on Wednesday September 14th members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit, U.S. Marshals Task Force and Massachusetts State Police VFAS arrested Mendoza inside an apartment in the 300 block of Maple Street on a warrant for his involvement in the August 10th shooting.
