On Monday, at the Worcester District Court, Stephen W. Beando, 50, 23 Salminen Dr. Leicester, Massachusetts was arraigned on charges of leaving the scene after causing death, motor vehicle homicide by OUI liquor and/or drugs, fail to slow for pedestrian in roadway and failure to report address change to RMV. Beando was held on $25,000 cash bail and is due back in court August 9th.
Allegedly, on May 29th at 8:22 PM, Beando was out drinking at an establishment on Main Street in Worcester. Video surveillance showed Beando drinking seven Yuengling draft beers. Video surveillance also showed Beando leave the establishment twice to go outside and smoke marijuana.
At approximately 1:47 AM, Beando was seen on video surveillance entering his vehicle and leaving the establishment on Main Street in a northerly direction. At around 1:50 AM, Beando hit a pedestrian who was in the street in his wheelchair and then fled the area.
The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries. On June 28th, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries from the crash.
