Worcester Red Sox Open Series Against IronPigs With 13-2 Win

In Allentown, Pennsylvania Tuesday night, the Worcester Red Sox made it known that they were in town and hungry for some pigs. After losing their last two at home, Worcester came out looking alive with four homers to help them get a 13-2 win against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (AAA-Philadelphia).

Rob Refsnyder opened this contest up at the top of the first with a single to drive in Connor Wong. In the bottom of the first Darick Hall hit his thirteenth double of the season for the IronPigs to dive in Austin Wynns and make it a 1-1 tie game.

Thing started rolling for Worcester at the top of the second with Jonathan Arauz scoring and then Jarren Duran hitting his third triple of the season to drive in Ronaldo Hernandez. 

At the top of the third Connor Wong showed up to the plate with his first homer of the season to make it a 5-1 Worcester lead. 

Things really heated for Worcester at the top of the fifth with Rob Refsnyder  hitting his fourth homer of the season to drive in Ryan Fitzgerald. Christin Stewart hit his sixth homer of the season. Ronaldo Hernandez scored and then Ryan Fitzgerald hit a single to drive in Yolmer Sanchez and Jarren Duran. 

In the bottom of the fifth Matt Vierling hit his fourth double of the season for the IronPigs to drive in Dalton Guthrie. 

This game was over at the top of the seventh with both Yolmer Sanchez and Jarren Duran scoring to make it a 13-2 Worcester game.

WooSox and the IronPigs will meet again on Wednesday night for game two of this six-game set at Coca-Cola Park.
