By Tiffany Williams

Friday night the Worcester Red Sox hosted the Rochester Red Wings for game four of their six-game homestand. If the Friday the 13th curse is a real thing it was definitely felt here tonight as Worcester went the first five innings scoreless. Rochester had one run at the top of the third and five runs at the top of the fifth to lead this game 6-0.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Christin Stewart opened up the game for Worcester hitting his fifth homer 384 feet to right field to make it a 6-1 Rochester lead. Jarren Duran then hit his sixth double for the season to drive in Yolmer Sanchez and Grant Williams.

In the bottom of the 9th Yolmer Sanchez hit his fifth homer of the season 410 feet to right field to make it a a 6-4 Rochester game.

As part of the Worcester red Sox “Heart of Worcester Recognition” the WooSox recognized the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Massachusetts Chapter on Friday night. Before the game Christin Stewart and Ryan Fitzgerald shared some messages on suicide prevention and awareness while WooSox Manager Chad Tracy shared with the media his personal experience with a friend who committed suicide.

During the game I also took a minute to sit down with Jessica from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and Joe Bradlee who is Vice President of Baseball Operations and Community Relations for the Worcester Red Sox.

The WooSox recognizing the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention comes just three months after former major leaguer Jeremy Giambi shot and killed himself. Giambi wrapped up his six-year MLB career with the Boston Red Sox in 2003.
