It was an early morning for the Worcester Red Sox Thursday with an 11:07 AM first pitch at Fifth Third Field in downtown Toledo, Ohio but they were definitely awake in this contest to get a 5-4 win against the Mud Hens in game one of Thursday’s double-header.
Both Jarren Duran and Jonathan Arauz scored at the top of the first inning to make it a 2-0 Worcester lead. Second inning went scoreless but in the bottom of the third, former WooSox player Jack Lopez scored and then Kody Clemens, the son of Red Sox great Roger Clemens, scored to make it a 2-2 tie game. At the top of the fourth, it wouldn’t be a WooSox game without at least one homer and Jarren Duran hit his second homer of the season to drive Connor Wong and Yolmer Sanchez to make it a 5-2 Worcester lead. The Mud Hens had a run in the bottom of the sixth and seventh to make it a 5-4 Worcester game.
Game two of Thursday’s double-header went to the Mud Hens with a 2-1 win. In the bottom of the first Daz Cameron hit a single to drive in Kody Clemens. At the top of the second Jaylin Davis was the solo run of the game for Worcester and Zack Short was the solo run at the top of the sixth for the Mud Hens.
Jaylin Davis made his debut with the Worcester Red Sox Thursday after being claimed off waivers from the Giants a week ago, last Thursday. Before being added to the WooSox roster Davis made a pit stop in Boston to appear in last Friday’s contest against the Baltimore Orioles. Davis was added to the game one lineup against the Mud Hens on Wednesday with one run and one hit in one appearance at bat. The 27-year-old was in the lineup Thursday with one run in game two.
