On Wednesday night at Dunkin Donuts Park in Downtown Hartford the Yard Goats claimed a 3-2 win against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
At the top of the third Johneshwy Fargas hit his third homer of the season to drive in Matt Winaker and make it a 2-0 Rumble Ponies lead. In the bottom of the fifth inning Michael Toglia scored to get the Yard Goats into the game and make it a 2-1 Rumble Ponies lead. In the bottom of the seventh inning Michael Toglia hit his third homer of the season to make it a 2-2 tie game. With the ninth inning scoreless this game went into the tenth inning which also went scoreless to go into the eleventh inning and Ezequiel Tovar hit a single to drive in Max George and make it a 2-3 Yard Goats game. This was the second time this season Ezequiel Tovar led the Goats to a walk-off win.
Earlier this week on Monday, Ezequiel Tovar was named Eastern League Player of the Week by Major League Baseball. Just before gates opened Wednesday night at Dunkin Donuts Park, MLB named Tovar the Eastern League Player of the Month for April.
Since the start of the 2022 season I’ve been telling folks to watch Ezequiel Tovar and that he will be knocking on the door of the Albuquerque Isotopes and possibly even get the call to the Majors by season’s end.
With just one month into the 2022 season, Tovar is leading the league in hits (30) and total bases (55) and was second in OPS. Tovar is third in slugging percentage, fourth in average and RBI (17), fifth in runs (17) and sixth in home runs (five). He has recorded nine multi-hit games.
20-year-old Tovar, who had a game-ending homer on April 22 against Somerset, was signed by Colorado as an International Free Agent out of Maracay, Venezuela, for $800,000 on Aug. 1, 2017.
