U.S. Capitol Evacuated Wednesday Night By Capitol Police

Military Appreciation Night at the Washington Nationals baseball game caused a scare on Capitol Hill Wednesday. 

U.S. Capitol Police confirmed Capitol Hill had to be evacuated after an aircraft entered an exclusion zone around the U.S. Capitol. It all happened about 6:30 PM and thirty minutes later the U.S. Capitol was allowed to reopen. 

Kelli LeGaspi, spokeswoman for United States Army Recruiting Command confirmed the U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team’s demonstration at the Washington Nationals baseball game as part of Military Appreciation Night. 

The Army parachutists flew into the exclusion zone around the U.S. Capitol, causing Capitol Police to evacuate the Capitol. 

NewsTalk New England has learned from a reliable source that the De Havilland Twin Otter aircraft carrying the Army parachutists which entered the exclusion zone around the U.S. Capitol, took off from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland and did not report taking off and did not have the appropriate clearance.
