Red Sox, Railers And Yard Goats In The L Column While WooSox And Bruins Get Wins Friday

The Boston Red Sox kicked off the 2022 season Friday afternoon losing to the Yankees 5-6. The Red Sox started off with an early lead in the first inning with Devers getting his first homer 382 feet to right and getting an RBI (Hernández) and then Martinez doubled to right and Bogaerts scored to make it a 3-0 Red Sox lead. In the bottom of the first, Rizzo hit a homer 414 feet to right center and Judge scored to make it a 3-2 Red Sox lead. The Yankees grabbed their second homer of the game with Stanton to make it a 3-3 tie game. At the top of the 6th the Red Sox cracked the tie with Verdugo hitting a single to right center and Bogaerts scored to make it a 4-3 Red Sox lead. In the bottom of the 8th the Yankees tied it up again with LeMahieu hitting a homer 369 feet to right center to make it a 4-4 game. The nineth inning went scoreless and this game went into overtime. At the top of the tenth Bogaerts singled to left and Araúz scored to make it a 5-4  Red Sox lead. The Yankees had a run in the bottom of the 10th and another run in the bottom of the 11th to get the W and serve up the L to the Red Sox. The Red Sox and Yankees will be back at it again Saturday in the Bronx.

Saturday night was a beautiful night in Hartford and it was the official kick off of the 2022 goat season. The Hartford Yard Goats opened up the 2022 season against  the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (NY-Mets affiliate). The Yard Goats were looking for their second consecutive Opening Day victory however the Rumble Ponies, they secured an 8-2 win in this game. The Yard Goats got on the board late, in the 9th inning with Michael Toglia hitting a homer and getting an RBI (Ezequiel Tovar). The Yard Goats and Rumble Ponies will meet again Saturday for game two of this weekend homestand.

Down in Jacksonville Friday night the Worcester Red Sox found themselves back in the win column as they secured an 8-4 win against the Jumbo Shrimp. The Jumbo Shrimp took the lead early with a homer in the bottom of the first and then a run in the bottom of the second but the WooSox were all about getting back into the win column and they set the tone for this game at the top of the third with Franchy Cordero hitting a grand slam to right field (Jeter Downs, Triston Casas and Rob Refsnyder scored). It didn’t stop there the party just got better when Johan Mieses showed up with a homer at the top of the 6th and then Jeter Downs hit a double and Peyton Burdick scored. At the top of the seventh Franchy Cordero scored and then at the top of the 8th Jeter Downs hit his first homer of the season. The Jumbo Shrimp had two runs in the bottom of the 9th. The Worcester Red Sox and the Jumbo Shrimp will meet again Saturday night for game five of this six game series. 

On the ice in downtown Worcester Friday night the Railers found themselves in the losing column with a 6-0 loss against the Trois-Rivières Lions. This was the 5th straight April loss for the Railers who will be back on the ice again Saturday night against the Trois-Rivières Lions. 

On the ice at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida the Bruins met the Lightning and won 2-1. DeBrusk had a goal in the second period for the Bruins and Bellemare had a goal in the second period for the Lightning. The end of the second period it was a tie 1-1 game but in the third period a goal by Coyle secured the win for the Bruins.
