Police in Sacramento, California are investigating what they’re calling a mass shooting.
Sacramento Police Department says they responded to the area of 10th Street and K Street around 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning and “Upon arrival, officers located a large group of individuals as well as multiple gunshot victims.”
Despite live-saving measures Sacramento Police Department said “Six victims were pronounced deceased at the scene.”
Just before the shooting incident there was an altercation in the area and Police say there is video of that altercation. Sacramento Police is trying to determine they said “What, if any, relation these events have to the shooting.”
Sacramento Police said Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators will be conducting a comprehensive investigation which will include gathering evidence, documenting the scene, and contacting involved individuals.
During the preliminary phases of the investigation, Sacramento Police confirmed “At least one firearm was recovered at the scene.”
The victims have not yet been identified but Sacramento police Chief Kathy Lester did confirm three men and three women were deceased.
“What we do know at this point is that another mass casualty shooting has occurred, leaving families with lost loved ones, multiple individuals injured and a community in grief,” said California Gov. Gavin Newsom who also called the shooting “yet another horrendous act of gun violence,”
