Early Saturday morning, about 2:34 a.m. officers with the Springfield, Massachusetts Police Department arrested Christian Santiago who has been charged with Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License, Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Number Plate Violation and Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle.
While in the area of Pomona Street officers observed a motor vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign before turning onto Sumner Avenue. After turning onto Sumner Avenue officers observed this same vehicle turn into a parking lot of a convenience store in the 600 block.
Officers determined the vehicle registration was revoked due to a lack of insurance and the driver who was later identified as Christian Santiago had a suspended license. When officers approached Santiago he was standing outside the vehicle and he gave the officers his suspended license.
While officers were searching Santiago they felt a firearm in his jacket pocket and recovered a loaded semi-automatic firearm from his pocket.
