Early Thursday morning, Providence Police Department confirmed that there was “A lone gunman inside 25 Denison St.”
Providence Police asked the public to “Avoid the area, expect delays” They said, “People in the immediate area are to shelter in place.”
It all started with a phone call to police around 2:30 a.m. that Scott McLean, 61, was assaulting his son and daughter. Police responded and were able to get people inside out before McLean barricaded himself inside.
When police attempted to communicate with McLean, he fired multiple shots at officers who returned fire.
Eventually officers were able to get inside the apartment and they found McLean dead.
Providence Police say that were multiple guns including rifles inside the home. They also said that they were familiar with McLean and that he had mental health issues.
