In Connecticut, the Department of Public Health is upgrading its guidance for local athletic events.
Wednesday night DPH announced that because of the number of coronavirus cases in Connecticut, all athletes, coaches, and officials wear face coverings at indoor sporting events, regardless of their vaccination status.
Initially, DPH recommended that fully vaccinated athletes be given the option to not wear a mask during indoor sports competitions, but with the Omicron variant that guidance has changed.
The new mask requirement applies to all athletic competitions taking place indoors and it begins as soon as tomorrow.
The Connecticut Interscholastic Conference executive director Glenn Lungarini said he sent out an email to schools letting them know about the change tonight. Lungarini also says, “We’ve successfully been able to bring kids back to sport opportunities both last year and this year and everybody’s focus is to give kids opportunities and keep them active within our sports.”
