Tuesday morning the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS), along with US Marshals task forces from Rhode Island and Massachusetts, and Waltham Police apprehended Eugene Reid, 40, a homicide fugitive from Corpus Christi, Texas.
Earlier this year, on May 13, 2021 officers with the Corpus Christi, Texas police department responded to the 2800 block of Ruth for a possible shooting. Upon arrival officers located a male, 29, who had been shot. The male was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injury.
An investigation conducted by the Corpus Christi Police Department determined that the male who was shot was an employee of a nightclub in the 2800 block of Ruth. Following an altercation at this nightclub, is when the male was shot. Additionally, the Corpus Christi Police Department determined that the shooter in this incident in was Eugene Reid. On Friday, May 14, 2021 a warrant charging Reid with murder had been issued.
Both the Corpus Christi Police Department and the US Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force had exhausted all leads locally in their search for Reid.
During their search for Reid, the US Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force developed information that Reid potentially was in Rhode Island. The investigation and search for Reid was then given to the US Marshals Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force who eventually determined that Reid was in Massachusetts.
On Monday the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS), developed information that Reid was in an apartment at 62 School St. in Waltham. Once this information was determined to be good solid information, an operation to apprehend Reid was put together.
This operation which included MSP VFAS Troopers, US Marshals Massachusetts, Rhode Island State Police Violent Fugitive Task Force and the Waltham Police Department was executed at approximately 7:30 a.m. this morning and Reid was taken into custody without incident.
Reid was booked at the MSP Concord Barracks and has since been arraigned in Waltham District Court.
