For New England sports fans, there were a lot of reasons to be happy Sunday with the Bruins beating the Sharks, the Celtics beating the Rockets and then the Patriots beating the Jets.
At the TD Garden Sunday, the Bruins hosted the Sharks and they claimed a 3-4 win. In the first period, Brad Marchand had a nice wrist shot to get the first goal of the game to make it a Bruins 0-1 lead. In Foxborough Sunday the New England Patriots returned to AFC East Division play, hosting the New York Jets and 65,878 fans. The Patriots defeated the Jets, 25-6, in the first meeting between the two teams on September 19 at MetLife Stadium. The Patriots extended their streak to 11 straight wins over the Jets with the victory. That streak is tied for the second-longest winning streak in team history. The Patriots beat Buffalo 15 straight times from 2003 through 2010 and also own an 11-game winning streak against Buffalo.
With the Patriots claiming a 13-54 win against the Jets on Sunday, it was their 22nd series sweep against the Jets and a season sweep for the sixth straight season. It was also the 13th sweep under Bill Belichick and their 15th under Robert Kraft.
In the First quarter, Agholor got a touchdown, the kick after was good and the Patriots got on the board 0-7. Harris got a touchdown. The kick after was good to make it a 0-14 Patriots lead. The second started with Folk making a 39 yard. field goal to make it a 0-17 Patriots lead. For the Jets, Davis had one touchdown and for the Patriots Bolden and .Henry both had touchdowns. My top three takeaways from this week was 30 points in the first half, Kendrick Bourne’s 25-yard touchdown pass to Nelson Agholor and J.C. Jackson.
The Patriots scored 30 points in the first half for the 12th time in team history; 10th under Bill Belichick and first since a 30-point first half at New Orleans on Sept. 17, 2017. Also, the Patriots scored 50 points for the 14th time in team history.
Kendrick Bourne’s 25-yard touchdown pass to Nelson Agholor was the third pass completion by a Patriots wide receiver in 2021. Jakobi Meyers completed two passes vs. Tampa Bay on Oct. 3. The 2020 Patriots had four completions by wide receivers. The most passes completed by a New England team by non-quarterbacks was seven in 1981.
DB J.C. Jackson recorded an interception against the Jets for the four straight game with his third quarter pick. He is the first NFL player to record an interception against an opponent in four straight games since Baltimore’s S Eric Weddle had four straight against Cleveland (2016-17).
