On Friday night at approximately 4:45 p.m., State Police responded to reports of a crash involving two vehicles on Route 290 eastbound at 495 northbound in Marlborough.
A 53-year-old man from Lawrence, was traveling eastbound when his vehicle failed to slow for decelerating traffic in the left lane merging onto 495 northbound. He then struck the rear of a 2019 Nissan Armada.
The male had to be extracted from his vehicle by Marlborough Fire Department. He suffered serious injuries in the crash and was transported by medical helicopter to UMass-Lakeside, where he was pronounced deceased.
The operator of the Nissan, a 38-year-old man from Willington, Conn., and his passengers were uninjured.
This crash remains under investigation by Troop C of the Massachusetts State Police with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
