Worcester Red Sox Beat Buffalo Bisons 4-2

It’s been some real baseball at Polar Park this season and the fans, typical New England fans have been absolutely wild about the WooSoox. 9,508 fans attended Saturdays game five of a six game homestand against the Buffalo Bisons.

Today was Sale Day at Polar Park with Chris Sale making his debut from the hill, pitching five innings.

In the bottom of the 1st, Marwin Gonzalez hit his first homer for the WooSox to make it a 1-0, WooSox game.

In the 4th, at the top Cullen Large scored for the Bisons to make it a 1-1, tie game. In the bottom Tate Matheny hit his third homer of the season with the WooSox to make it a 2-1, WooSox game.

In the bottom of the 5th, Jeter Downs hit his 9th homer of the season to make it a 3-2, WooSox game.

Jeter Downs these past couple of games has been looking like he’s back on top of his game. Downs sustained a head injury in late June and right after  played for the American League in the 2021 Futures Game. In that game he went 1-for-2 with a double, two RBI and a run. With the WooSox in June, Downs had 73 at bats, 12 runs, 18 hits and 4 homers. In May, Downs had 71 at bats, 8 runs, 17 hits and 3 homers. July just has not been a great month for the WooSox but definitely not a great month for Downs who has had 78 at bats, 6 runs, 10 hits and just 2 homers that came in the last two game against the Bisons.

In The top of the 7th, Nash Knight scored for the Bisons to make it a 4-2, WooSox game.

The final at Polar Park Saturday was Worcester 4 and Buffalo 2.

Game six of this six game homestand will begin a new month, August for the WooSox and the game at Polar Park begins at 1:05 PM.
