The final from Phoenix Field at the DCU Center was Pirates 33 and the Frisco Fighters 40.
It’s easy to get caught up in the details of this game and why the Pirates, just couldn’t come up with a win. With Justin Stockton out and Mardy Gilyard leaving with an injury, Alejandro Bennifield had to rely heavily on Thomas Owens and Laquvionte Gonzalez. Both are two great receivers and they went up against an aggressive Frisco Fighters defense.
Hopefully veteran receiver Mardy Gilyard’s injury isn’t so bad and we see him come back. You need a veteran receiver like Gilyard who can not only make some impactful plays but also build the confidence of other receivers.
Massachusetts Pirates defense deserves some spotlight time tonight. I have so much respect for the Pirates defensive line and D Backs.
Guts, glory, toughness and roughness is everything that the D unit is with guys like JD Griggs, Toby Johnson and Chucky Williams.
In the D unit, Griggs has been one of the most consistent and underrated playmakers. After the game as I passed Griggs in the tunnel, I could still see that fire and energy in him that he brings to this game week in and week out. His unwavering commitment to this game is what makes this Pirates D unit so strong.
