On Wednesday the city of Worcester had a groundbreaking ceremony for the new O’Connell Field and Worcester Fire Memorial Walkway.
The $4.4 million project at 141 Grove Street will include a new synthetic competition turf lined for football, lacrosse and field hockey, sports lighting, player benches, bleachers, portable restrooms, scoreboard, an ADA accessible lighted entry plaza and walkway, lighted elevated boardwalk, security cameras, park benches, trees plantings and a new park sign.
The City Manager’s offices says that the existing Firefighters monument will be relocated to the new ADA accessible Firefighters Memorial Walkway.
