Lawrence – Lawrence police officers joined survivors of domestic violence, their families and local advocates for the annual Break the Silence Walk. The event gave neighbors a way to show their support during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
In a statement about the walk, the Lawrence Police Department urged residents to recognize how close to home domestic violence can be. Someone living in fear may be a friend, a relative or a neighbor, and abuse can affect people of any age or background.
The department thanked the organizers and community partners who made the walk possible. Officers also pledged to continue working with local advocates to support survivors beyond the annual event.
