A pickup truck driver who allegedly refused to stop for a York County sheriff’s deputy crashed into three vehicles and a residence in Waterboro before being found hiding in a pond, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office. Zackery Lacourse, 21, of Lebanon, was arrested after a K-9 team tracked him a short distance from the wreck.
The incident began Monday, October 5, at approximately 10:27 p.m., when Deputy Ashley Sargent attempted to stop a vehicle operating erratically on Main Street. The vehicle had no headlights on, and its driver failed to stop before fleeing southbound. The sheriff’s office said a pursuit was not initiated.
Sargent subsequently located the white 2005 Ford Super Duty at the intersection of Main Street and West Road after it had crashed into multiple vehicles and a residence. According to the sheriff’s office, the truck first struck a 2017 Subaru Impreza driven by a 30-year-old Shapleigh woman. She was not injured.
The truck continued into the Waterboro House of Pizza parking lot, where it struck two parked vehicles and a residence. By the time authorities located the truck, the suspect had fled, leaving deputies to search the surrounding area.
Deputy Cody Frazier and K-9 Rebel responded to conduct a track. The team located Lacourse hiding in a pond a short distance away, and deputies took him into custody without incident. He reported minor injuries from the crash.
Lacourse was transported to the York County Jail and charged with operating under the influence, with one prior offense; reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon; failure to stop for a police officer; operating after suspension; and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash. The charges followed a sequence that began with an attempted traffic stop and ended with damage to three other vehicles and a home.
