Patricia Joanna Almonte-Frías and Rineldys Feliciano Díaz-Cuevas were extradited to Puerto Rico to face cyberstalking and threats conspiracy charges. Prosecutors announced Friday that the pair arrived September 30 and appeared in court October 1.
Authorities allege they used social media to obtain intimate images and then demanded money while threatening to expose victims. The alleged scheme operated from the Dominican Republic and targeted people in Puerto Rico.
Some victims paid but still had images distributed, prosecutors said. The FBI investigated with international assistance.
The conspiracy charge carries a possible five-year prison sentence. Both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
