Massachusetts State Police and agencies in five neighboring states will increase traffic enforcement October 13–15 through Operation Wicked Safe. The coordinated patrols will target speeding, aggressive driving, distraction, impaired driving and other hazardous behavior.

Troopers from Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont will participate alongside Massachusetts. Officials announced the initiative at the State Police barracks in Weston.

In Massachusetts, priority routes include Interstates 90, 91, 84, 93, 95 and 395, along with Route 146. Drivers can expect more visible patrols and support from specialized units.

The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section will assign 30 troopers to inspect trucks, buses and other commercial vehicles. State Police’s Division of Field Services developed the operation to strengthen regional roadway safety.

Officials cited October’s combination of seasonal tourism, school traffic and changing road conditions. Massachusetts State Police recorded more than 4,000 crash-related calls in October 2025, while MassDOT recorded 38 fatal crashes that month.

Colonel Geoffrey Noble emphasized that enforcement will extend across state boundaries. Participating agencies urged motorists to obey speed limits, avoid distractions, drive sober, wear seat belts and allow sufficient travel time.
