PITTSFIELD — A 21-year-old man convicted of assaulting juvenile girls after providing them with alcohol at a Pittsfield park has been sentenced to two consecutive jail terms totaling five years, followed by three years of probation.
Chase Wood was found guilty by a jury on Friday, October 9, of nine charges connected to the assaults, according to the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office. A judge imposed the sentence on Friday, October 16, one week after the verdict.
The convictions include three counts of indecent assault and battery, one count of assault and battery, one count of assault with intent to rape, one count of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, and three counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor.
The judge sentenced Wood to two and a half years in the House of Correction, followed by another two and a half years in the House of Correction to be served after the first term. Three years of probation will follow those custodial sentences.
The sentence was shorter than the punishment sought by prosecutors. The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office said the Commonwealth requested a total of seven to nine years in state prison.
The case arose from an encounter during the summer of 2025, when Wood met three juvenile girls at a park in Pittsfield. According to the district attorney’s account, Wood brought alcohol to the meeting and supplied it to the girls.
After the group consumed alcohol, Wood gave the three girls a ride on his electric bicycle. During that ride, he began attempting to assault them. Two of the girls were able to resist his advances, but the third was unable to do so because of her position on the bicycle.
The district attorney’s office said Wood then took the third girl to a secluded area of the park and attempted to assault her further. When she resisted, he violently dragged her into the woods. All three girls ultimately escaped.
The prosecution proceeded to a jury trial, resulting in guilty verdicts on each of the nine charges described in the district attorney’s announcement. The release did not identify the victims, and their identities are not included here.
Berkshire District Attorney Timothy Shugrue commended the prosecution team and the three girls for participating in the case, emphasizing the lasting impact of the assaults.
“I am pleased by the outcome in this case. The trauma he inflicted on three young women will impact them for years to come. I commend them for their bravery as we moved through this case,” Shugrue said in a statement released by his office.
Andrew Giorolo, chief of the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office Child Abuse Unit, represented the Commonwealth. Ian Benoit and Shairai Richards served as victim-witness advocates for the district attorney’s office.
Pittsfield Police served as the lead law enforcement agency in the investigation.
The October 16 sentencing follows the jury’s October 9 verdict and concludes the trial and sentencing phase of a case involving the assault of three minors, the provision of alcohol to children and a five-year custodial sentence.
