Carlos Bras, 41, of East Providence, was sentenced October 8 to 30 months in federal prison for stealing from a 78-year-old Santander Bank customer with dementia. He was also ordered to repay $126,000 and serve three years of supervised release.

Bras admitted enabling online banking, ordering checks to addresses he controlled and obtaining a debit card for unauthorized use. Prosecutors said he moved money to accounts held by himself and relatives, including an account in Portugal.

The customer lived in assisted housing and had a court-appointed conservator in Massachusetts. Bras pleaded guilty to mail fraud and aggravated identity theft.

The Secret Service and Seekonk police investigated. U.S. District Judge Melissa DuBose imposed the sentence.
