Connecticut awarded $10.6 million to 41 school districts to expand special education services within their own schools, according to Governor Ned Lamont’s weekly update. Lamont and Education Commissioner Charlene Russell-Tucker highlighted the initiative during a Wednesday visit to Wheeler Elementary School in Plainville.

The High-Quality Special Education Incentive Grant Program aims to help districts serve students with disabilities locally and reduce reliance on placements outside their home districts. The governor’s office said many parents and educators favor expanding those local options.

Lamont said the investment supports both students and municipalities. His administration plans to continue making grants as additional districts develop proposals to expand services.
