Paul Conneh, 39, of Moncton, New Brunswick, was sentenced October 6 to 33 months in federal prison for participating in a grandparent scam. A Vermont federal judge also ordered $256,000 in restitution.

Conneh pleaded guilty in May to wire fraud and money laundering conspiracies. Court records say he recruited people to collect money from older Americans and helped distribute and launder the proceeds.

His participation lasted approximately three weeks in July and August 2023 and affected about 20 victims. Authorities arrested him in Costa Rica in 2025 before extraditing him to the United States.

Federal agencies and international partners investigated. Older fraud victims can seek assistance through the National Elder Fraud Hotline at 833-372-8311.
