Boston police arrested a 16-year-old boy and recovered a loaded handgun near Mount Pleasant and Dudley streets in Roxbury around 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 7. Officers were patrolling the neighborhood after residents and businesses raised concerns about activity near a playground.
The Youth Violence Strike Force had increased patrols following numerous 911 calls involving reported gang activity, drug use and firearms. The unit includes Boston police, Boston Housing Police and Massachusetts State Police personnel.
During an ongoing firearm investigation, officers saw someone leaving a convenience store who matched the description of a person believed to be armed. Police said he walked away quickly when officers approached.
Officers stopped the teenager and recovered a Taurus G3c 9mm pistol from his waistband during a pat frisk, according to police. The weapon held 10 rounds, including one in the chamber, and had a large-capacity magazine.
Police said the teenager faces charges of unlawful firearm possession, carrying a loaded firearm, unlawful ammunition possession and unlawful possession of a large-capacity feeding device. The allegations have not been proven, and he is presumed innocent.
