Week 1 across CAA Football featured several strong performances at quarterback.

Towson’s Andrew Indorf helped bring the Tigers back from a 21-point deficit against Maine.

Stony Brook’s Quinn Boyd nearly completed a remarkable comeback against Delaware State.

Elon’s Brady Stober accounted for three touchdowns in a dominant victory over Glenville State.

Hampton’s Jalen Woods threw three touchdown passes as the Pirates rolled to a 45-0 victory.

But nobody at the position produced a more complete performance than Campbell quarterback Kamden Sixkiller.

After accounting for 438 yards of total offense and four touchdowns in Campbell’s 49-37 road victory over ETSU, Sixkiller has been named the Week 1 NewsTalk New England Whole Foods CAA Quarterback of the Week.

Sixkiller completed 29 of 42 passes for 343 yards and two touchdowns without throwing an interception.

He was just as dangerous when he decided to run.

Sixkiller carried 10 times for 95 yards and two more touchdowns, averaging 9.5 yards per attempt.

That gave Campbell’s quarterback 438 yards of total offense and four touchdowns in his first game of the season.

But the numbers alone aren’t what separated Sixkiller from the other quarterbacks around the conference.

It was what he did when Campbell needed him most.

The Camels had built a 42-24 advantage before ETSU came storming back.

The Buccaneers scored 13 unanswered points and suddenly Campbell’s lead was down to 42-37.

What had looked like a comfortable fourth-quarter advantage had become a five-point game.

Campbell needed an answer.

Sixkiller provided it.

Facing third-and-two from the Campbell 40, Sixkiller kept the football and broke loose for 42 yards.

Instead of giving ETSU an opportunity to get the football back with a chance to take the lead, Sixkiller moved Campbell all the way to the Buccaneers’ 18.

Two plays later, he finished the job himself.

Sixkiller ran 14 yards for his second rushing touchdown of the game.

The score gave Campbell a 49-37 advantage and effectively ended ETSU’s comeback attempt.

Sixkiller’s performance was also remarkably clean considering how much of Campbell’s offense ran through him.

He attempted 42 passes.

He carried the football 10 times.

He accounted for 438 of Campbell’s 514 total yards.

And he never turned the football over.

Campbell finished with 343 passing yards and 171 rushing yards while putting 49 points on the scoreboard.

Sixkiller was responsible for the overwhelming majority of that production.

There were other quarterbacks deserving of consideration.

Boyd threw for 323 yards and three touchdowns and added another touchdown on the ground as Stony Brook fought back from deficits of 24-6 and 31-13 before ultimately falling 41-34 to Delaware State.

Indorf threw for 267 yards and two touchdowns as Towson nearly erased a 21-0 deficit against Maine.

Stober threw for 260 yards and two touchdowns while adding another score on the ground as Elon defeated Glenville State 42-7.

Woods threw for 191 yards and three touchdowns as Hampton produced the most lopsided victory of the CAA’s opening weekend.

Each had a case.

But Sixkiller combined passing production, rushing production, ball security, four total touchdowns and a game-clinching fourth-quarter response.

When ETSU threatened Campbell’s lead, the football remained in his hands.

And he delivered.

For producing 438 yards of total offense, accounting for four touchdowns and making the defining plays late in Campbell’s 49-37 victory over ETSU, Kamden Sixkiller is the Week 1 NewsTalk New England Whole Foods CAA Quarterback of the Week.
