Emergency crews across Massachusetts and Connecticut responded to a series of serious incidents over the weekend, including a head-on crash in Braintree that left two drivers injured, a two-victim shooting in Boston, a six-vehicle crash on Cape Cod that sent four people to the hospital, the conclusion of a three-day recovery operation in New Haven, and a fatal pedestrian crash in Stamford.
Braintree Head-On Crash Under Investigation
Police in Braintree responded to a head-on crash on Pond Street just before 4:00 a.m. Saturday.
The Braintree Police Department said both drivers were injured in the collision. One of the drivers, who was operating a Nissan, was unconscious and suffering from serious internal injuries.
Both drivers were transported to South Shore Hospital for treatment.
The Massachusetts State Police C.A.R.S. Section, the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Section and the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office also responded to investigate the crash.
Boston Police Investigating Double Shooting
Boston police are investigating a shooting that left two people injured late Friday night.
Officers responded to the area of 31 Hancock St. at approximately 10:40 p.m. after receiving a report of a person who had been shot.
Police found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound at the scene. He was transported to a local hospital.
A second adult male later arrived at a local hospital on his own seeking treatment.
Police said both victims are expected to survive.
No arrests have been announced, and investigators said the case remains active and ongoing.
Six-Vehicle Crash Sends Four to Hospital on Cape Cod
Four people were hospitalized following a six-vehicle crash Saturday morning on Route 6 in Sandwich.
The Sandwich Fire Department responded just before 9:00 a.m. after receiving reports of a multi-vehicle collision.
Firefighters found six vehicles involved, including two vans and two sport utility vehicles.
The first ambulance crew on scene identified 18 patients, with one person trapped inside a vehicle and requiring extrication.
Additional ambulances were requested to assist with the large number of patients.
Four people were transported to Cape Cod Hospital.
The remaining 14 people involved in the collision did not require hospitalization.
Massachusetts State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
Search Ends for Missing Teen in New Haven
Officials announced Saturday that the recovery operation for a 13-year-old boy who disappeared after entering the West River in New Haven has concluded.
Mayor Justin Elicker said crews ended the search at noon Saturday following a three-day effort.
The operation began Thursday morning and continued throughout Thursday before resuming Friday and concluding Saturday afternoon.
No additional information was released Saturday.
Stamford Woman Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle
An elderly pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle Friday morning in Stamford.
Police identified the victim as 78-year-old Carmen Illapa.
Investigators said Carmen Illapa was crossing Progress Drive near Stillwater Avenue at approximately 5:30 a.m. when she was struck by a 2022 Ford Escape driven by a 28-year-old Stamford resident.
Police said the driver remained at the scene and spoke with responding officers.
Carmen Illapa was transported by ambulance to Stamford Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police said she later died from those injuries.
The investigation into the fatal crash remains ongoing.
