Saturday night features another busy slate across New England sports as the Worcester Red Sox look to continue one of the hottest stretches in Triple-A baseball, the Portland Sea Dogs attempt to bounce back after a marathon loss to Harrisburg, the Hartford Yard Goats seek another victory over New Hampshire while continuing their push toward the postseason, the New England Revolution head north for a road matchup against CF Montreal, and the Connecticut Sun continue reshaping their roster before closing a three-game road trip against the Dallas Wings.
The Worcester Red Sox will try to carry the momentum from a historic July into the opening weekend of August when they face the Norfolk Tides in Game 5 of their six-game series Saturday night at Harbor Park.
Worcester enters the night having won three straight games, nine of its last 10 and 18 of its last 25 contests since June 28. The WooSox also hold a 3-1 advantage in the six-game series and will attempt to move eight games above .500 for the first time since June 2025.
The organization is coming off one of the best months in franchise history.
The WooSox finished July with a 16-7 record, tying the best monthly record in club history. During the month, Worcester led the International League with 145 runs scored while stealing 40 bases, the second-highest total in the league.
Boston also completed a historic month, finishing July with a 21-4 record, the highest winning percentage in a calendar month in franchise history. Former WooSox manager Chad Tracy guided the Red Sox through the record-setting month while relying on 23 former Worcester players.
Left-hander Alec Gamboa is scheduled to start for Worcester against Norfolk left-hander Luis De León, who is expected to make his Triple-A debut.
Franklin Arias is slated to lead off and start at second base, followed by Nate Eaton, Mikey Romero, Andrew Knizner, Allan Castro, Brett Harris, Vinny Capra, Kristian Campbell and Braiden Ward.
In Portland, the Sea Dogs will try to even their series after Friday night’s 9-6 loss to the Harrisburg Senators.
Anthony Eyanson struck out a career-high 10 batters in his last outing, while Will Turner homered and Brooks Brannon drove in two runs. The Sea Dogs also received another productive game from Jack Winnay, who continues to lead the club in batting average and on-base percentage.
Portland is scheduled to send right-hander Jedixson Paez to the mound. The right-hander will be looking to bounce back after his previous outing while continuing what has otherwise been a strong stretch since returning to the organization.
The Sea Dogs also continue to receive standout production from Ronald Rosario and Brooks Brannon after both players finished July with seven home runs and 19 RBIs.
Hartford will continue its six-game series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats looking for another win and an opportunity to secure its first series victory of the second half.
Manager Robinson Cancel enters the night one victory away from the 600th of his professional managerial career.
Left-hander Stu Flesland III is scheduled to make his fifth consecutive start after posting a 1.53 ERA as a starter. Hartford also continues to feature several Eastern League statistical leaders, including Andy Perez, Dyan Jorge, Aiden Longwell and Roc Riggio.
Major League Soccer also returns Saturday night as the New England Revolution visit CF Montreal at Stade Saputo.
New England will look to build on last weekend’s 4-1 victory over Atlanta United after also earning a scoreless draw against Toronto. Carles Gil returns following his appearance in the MLS All-Star Game and will face a Montreal club that has been held scoreless in each of its three matches since the World Cup break.
The Revolution also enter the weekend with one of Major League Soccer’s strongest defensive records, allowing only 19 goals through 16 matches.
The Connecticut Sun will close their three-game road trip Sunday against the Dallas Wings after announcing the signing of forward Rayah Marshall to a seven-day hardship contract following this week’s trade that sent Aneesah Morrow to the Toronto Tempo.
Connecticut will attempt to rebound from its loss to the Chicago Sky while monitoring the health of Brittney Griner, who is listed as questionable with a left knee injury. Aaliyah Edwards has been ruled out because of a right knee injury.
As August begins, every one of New England’s professional clubs enters the weekend chasing something meaningful, whether it is another step in the standings, a winning series, a postseason push or continued momentum after an unforgettable month of July.
