AUGUSTA, Maine. — The Maine Department of Transportation announced that overnight striping operations will take place at multiple locations across central and southern Maine beginning Aug. 3, with motorists advised to expect temporary traffic delays during the nighttime work.
According to MaineDOT, the project will run from Aug. 3 through Aug. 27, with crews working nightly between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. in Benton, Brunswick, Burnham, Clinton, Fairfield, Newport, Oakland, Palmyra, Pittsfield, West Bath, Bath and Waterville.
The work includes striping operations on portions of U.S. Route 1 and Interstate 95.
On U.S. Route 1, the project extends in both the northbound and southbound directions for approximately five miles each way from the Cooks Corner interchange in Brunswick to the Viaduct in Bath.
On Interstate 95 northbound, crews will work on a section beginning approximately 0.17 miles north of Webb Road in Waterville and continuing 31.49 miles to the Maine Central Railroad bridge in Newport.
On Interstate 95 southbound, the project begins at the Somerset Avenue bridge in Pittsfield and extends 15.95 miles to the Clinton-Clausson Bridge over the Kennebec River in Benton.
MaineDOT said no lane closures are planned during the project. However, officials warned that striping operations may result in sporadic temporary traffic delays while crews are working overnight.
The department expects the project to be completed by the fall of 2026.
L&D Safety Marking Corporation of Chelsea, Maine, is the contractor for the project.
The contract amount is $861,223.
