BOSTON — The Boston Red Sox announced Wednesday that more than $300,000 has been raised to support relief efforts following the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela through a fundraising campaign involving club ownership, players, the Red Sox Foundation, corporate partners and thousands of fans across Red Sox Nation.
The fundraising milestone will be recognized during the club’s inaugural Venezuelan Celebration at Fenway Park on Wednesday night.
As part of the pregame ceremonies, the Red Sox will hold a special on-field check presentation featuring Red Sox players, their families and representatives from local organizations serving the Venezuelan community.
The club’s Venezuelan players are scheduled to participate in the pregame ceremonies.
The fundraising campaign will continue throughout Wednesday night’s game.
The Red Sox will conduct a gate collection at Fenway Park to benefit Venezuelan earthquake relief efforts.
Online donations will also continue through July 31 through the Red Sox Foundation’s Venezuelan Earthquake Disaster Relief Efforts Fund.
According to the club, the money raised will support organizations providing both emergency assistance and long-term recovery efforts for communities affected by the earthquakes.
Before the game, fans making donations on Jersey Street will have the opportunity to take a photograph with Red Sox players from Venezuela.
The players are expected to personally thank fans for supporting the relief effort.
The Venezuelan Celebration marks the first event of its kind at Fenway Park.
The celebration is part of the organization’s Cultural & Identity Celebrations, a series of events recognizing the diverse communities that make up Red Sox Nation.
Pregame activities on Jersey Street will include entertainment celebrating Venezuelan culture.
Fans attending the event will also have access to culturally relevant concession offerings highlighting Venezuelan cuisine.
The Red Sox also announced that a portion of ticket proceeds from Venezuelan Celebration purchases will benefit the Red Sox Foundation’s Venezuelan Earthquake Disaster Relief Efforts Fund.
The fundraising initiative combines contributions from team ownership, players, charitable partners and fans as the organization continues efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to communities impacted by the earthquakes.
The club said donations to the relief fund will remain open through the end of July, allowing fans who are unable to attend Wednesday’s game an opportunity to continue supporting the recovery effort.
Wednesday’s event combines cultural recognition with charitable fundraising as the Red Sox use one of the organization’s newest community celebrations to raise awareness and financial support for disaster relief efforts in Venezuela.
The club said funds generated through the campaign will help organizations responding to immediate humanitarian needs while also supporting long-term recovery work in earthquake-affected communities.
