BOSTON — Heavy rain and thunderstorms forced the postponement of both the Boston Red Sox and Worcester Red Sox home games Tuesday, with each club announcing schedule changes as severe weather was expected to impact eastern and central Massachusetts throughout the evening.
The Boston Red Sox announced that Tuesday night’s game against the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park was postponed because of significant rainfall and thunderstorms forecast to continue in the Fenway area.
The game has been rescheduled as the first contest of a split doubleheader on Wednesday at 1:35 p.m.
The Red Sox said tickets for Tuesday’s postponed game will be honored for admission to the rescheduled afternoon game.
Wednesday night’s regularly scheduled game between the Red Sox and Orioles will still begin at 7:10 p.m.
The weather also disrupted plans approximately 40 miles west, where the Worcester Red Sox postponed Tuesday night’s scheduled 6:45 p.m. game against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp at Polar Park.
The WooSox cited a forecast calling for heavy rain, lightning and thunderstorms expected to move into the Worcester area around 4 p.m. and continue through the evening.
The postponed game will be made up as part of a single-admission doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 4:05 p.m.
Both games of the doubleheader will be scheduled for seven innings.
The twin bill will open a six-game series between Worcester and Jacksonville, with the Jumbo Shrimp remaining at Polar Park through Sunday afternoon.
The WooSox said fans holding tickets for Tuesday’s postponed game may exchange them for any remaining 2026 WooSox home game, based on availability.
The club said fans with printed tickets may exchange them for similar tickets of equal or lesser value, while those with electronic tickets may complete exchanges at the Polar Park Ticket Office or through the team’s website. Fans may also call the WooSox Ticket Office for assistance with exchanges.
Tuesday’s postponement marked Worcester’s fourth home postponement of the 2026 season and the second consecutive Tuesday home game to be postponed after the club’s July 7 game against Rochester was also rained out.
The WooSox noted that their first two home rainouts this season, on May 9 and May 24, were ultimately not made up and were considered canceled games during the first half of the schedule.
Last season, Worcester set a club record with nine home games that were either postponed or canceled.
