WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of State announced a new two-year partnership with Operation End Starvation that is intended to expand life-saving nutrition assistance for children and other vulnerable populations facing severe acute malnutrition around the world.
According to the Department of State, the partnership is part of the United States government’s ongoing humanitarian assistance efforts and will be administered through the Bureau of Disaster and Humanitarian Response.
Under the agreement, the United States intends to provide $100 million over the next two years to Operation End Starvation, an American nongovernmental organization and public-private partnership launched to combat global child mortality.
State Department officials said the funding is designed to support life-saving nutrition interventions around the world, with a particular focus on children who are suffering from or are at risk of developing severe acute malnutrition.
The Department described severe acute malnutrition as one of the world’s most urgent humanitarian challenges.
Officials said the partnership is intended to improve the delivery of nutrition assistance while maximizing efficiency through direct collaboration with Operation End Starvation.
According to the Department of State, the initiative will support those suffering from severe acute malnutrition, including children younger than five years old, through procurement strategies and nutrition programming.
The Department also said the partnership incorporates support from philanthropic organizations, combining government resources with private-sector contributions to expand the delivery of life-saving nutrition assistance.
Officials said this public-private approach is intended to increase the reach of nutrition programs serving vulnerable children around the world.
The announcement comes as the United States continues broader humanitarian assistance efforts through multiple international organizations and funding initiatives.
The Department of State said the new partnership will complement the recently announced commitment of more than $1 billion in humanitarian assistance provided to the United Nations Children’s Fund and the World Food Program.
According to the Department, that broader humanitarian assistance package includes more than $235 million dedicated specifically to life-saving nutrition assistance.
Officials said the new agreement with Operation End Starvation is intended to work alongside those existing efforts rather than replace them.
The Department also said the partnership builds upon the United States’ recently announced $3.8 billion in what it described as hyper-prioritized life-saving humanitarian assistance funding provided to the United Nations’ Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs through the government’s “Humanitarian Reset” framework agreement.
According to the Department of State, that framework supports United Nations humanitarian operations while also seeking reforms within the organization.
Officials said the latest nutrition initiative represents another component of the federal government’s broader humanitarian strategy focused on responding to food insecurity and severe malnutrition in countries facing humanitarian crises.
The Department highlighted previous nutrition assistance efforts undertaken during 2025 by the Trump administration.
According to the announcement, the administration provided $173 million in life-saving nutrition assistance during 2025.
The Department said those efforts included the delivery of more than 27,000 metric tons of ready-to-use foods across 15 countries.
Officials said those nutrition products were used to treat nearly 2.7 million children suffering from malnutrition.
The newly announced partnership is expected to continue supporting nutrition interventions over the next two years while expanding assistance to children and other vulnerable populations facing severe acute malnutrition.
The Department of State said the partnership reflects the United States’ continued commitment to humanitarian assistance through direct partnerships, international organizations and public-private collaboration aimed at addressing one of the world’s most pressing nutrition challenges.
