The New England Patriots made the biggest headline of the day Monday, acquiring star wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles in a blockbuster trade that gives quarterback Drake Maye a proven No. 1 target and reunites Brown with Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.
The Patriots agreed to send a 2028 first-round draft pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick to Philadelphia in exchange for Brown, who turns 29 later this month. Brown joins a revamped receiving corps that also includes free-agent addition Romeo Doubs. The veteran receiver has recorded more than 1,000 receiving yards in six of his seven NFL seasons and caught 78 passes for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns last season.
On the court, the Dallas Wings rolled past the Seattle Storm 79-56 in WNBA action Monday night. Aziaha James led Dallas with 18 points, while Flau’jae Johnson paced Seattle with 16 points. In Phoenix, the Minnesota Lynx delivered one of the most dominant performances of the season, defeating the Mercury 111-77 behind a 30-point effort from Courtney Williams. Kahleah Copper scored 18 points for Phoenix.
Major League Baseball also featured a full schedule Monday. The Detroit Tigers edged the Tampa Bay Rays 10-9, while the Miami Marlins defeated the Washington Nationals 7-3. The Kansas City Royals beat the Cincinnati Reds 9-2 and the Minnesota Twins topped the Chicago White Sox 9-6.
The Milwaukee Brewers overwhelmed the San Francisco Giants 16-2, while Jacob deGrom helped lead the Texas Rangers to a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-1, and the Seattle Mariners earned a 3-2 extra-inning win over the New York Mets.
In Triple-A baseball, the Worcester Red Sox wrapped up a six-game road trip against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders with a 1-0 loss on Sunday. Despite dropping the final two games of the series, Worcester won four of the six contests and returns home with momentum after victories of 6-3, 8-1, 1-0 and 6-5 earlier in the week.
The WooSox will open a six-game homestand Tuesday night against the Buffalo Bisons at Polar Park. The opener will feature Tail-Waggin’ Tuesday, allowing fans to bring their dogs to the ballpark, along with Taco & Tequila Tuesday, ALS Awareness Night and Peanut Allergy-Friendly Week activities.
At the Double-A level, the Portland Sea Dogs concluded their road trip with a 3-1 victory over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Sunday. Portland finished the six-game series with four wins and two losses after opening the trip with victories of 7-3, 6-2 and 10-9. The Sea Dogs return home Tuesday night to begin a six-game series against the Hartford Yard Goats.
Hartford enters that series after completing a successful homestand against the Altoona Curve. The Yard Goats closed the week with a 9-0 victory Sunday and won four of the six games in the series. Hartford recorded victories of 4-3, 5-4, 6-5 and 9-0 during the homestand.
The New Hampshire Fisher Cats also ended their road trip on a winning note, defeating the Somerset Patriots 3-2 on Sunday. New Hampshire finished the six-game set with three wins and three losses and returns home Tuesday night to host Altoona.
In the WNBA, the Connecticut Sun will begin Commissioner’s Cup play Tuesday night when they visit the Atlanta Dream at Gateway Center Arena. Connecticut enters the matchup with a 2-8 record after earning an 84-81 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday.
Aneesah Morrow continued her strong rookie campaign in the win, recording 17 points and 14 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season. Kennedy Burke added 14 points, three blocks and two steals, while Diamond Miller and Leïla Lacan each scored 12 points.
Atlanta enters the contest with a 5-2 record after defeating the Portland Fire 86-66 on Friday. Angel Reese led the Dream with 18 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. Tuesday’s game marks the 75th meeting between the franchises, with the all-time series tied 37-37.
As June begins, New England sports fans will be watching closely as the Patriots reshape their offense with the addition of A.J. Brown, while the region’s minor league baseball clubs continue their summer schedules and the Connecticut Sun look to build momentum heading into Commissioner’s Cup competition.
