FALL RIVER, Mass. — Eleven new police officers are officially joining the ranks of the Fall River Police Department, marking the beginning of the next chapter in a profession built on service, sacrifice and responsibility.
During a swearing-in ceremony held Friday, the newest members of the department took their oath of office before family members, fellow officers and city officials. The ceremony also included the signing of the department ledger, a longstanding tradition that connects each new officer to generations of Fall River police officers who have served before them.
For the department, the moment represented more than a ceremonial milestone. It marked the arrival of a new class of officers who will soon be patrolling city streets and responding to calls for service throughout the community.
The new officers enter the department after completing nearly six months of training at a regional police academy, followed by participation in the newly implemented FRPD University training program.
Now, the classroom phase is over.
The next stage begins in the field.
Each officer will enter the department’s Field Training Program, where they will work directly alongside experienced Field Training Officers. Through one-on-one instruction, the recruits will begin applying what they learned during months of academy and departmental training to real-world situations encountered on the streets of Fall River.
The transition from academy recruit to working police officer is often considered one of the most demanding periods in law enforcement training. It is where lessons learned in the classroom are tested through daily interactions with residents, investigations, emergencies and community policing efforts.
Department leaders described the group as an important part of the future of the Fall River Police Department and emphasized the role they will play in continuing the department’s mission of serving the city’s residents.
As the newest officers begin their field assignments in the coming weeks and months, they join a profession that demands professionalism, accountability and dedication to public service.
With their oath administered, their names entered into the department’s historic ledger and their training continuing in the field, the newest members of the Fall River Police Department now begin the work of serving the community they have pledged to protect.
