The Worcester Red Sox and Columbus Clippers met for the second game of their six-game series at Polar Park in Worcester, MA on Wednesday afternoon. Columbus came away with the 14-10 victory on Tuesday evening.
As it was in the first game, Columbus got off to a hot start as they scored three runs on two hits with two outs in the top of the first inning. Worcester was able to get one back in the bottom half of the inning as Braiden Ward scored on a Mikey Romero RBI groundout.
The WooSox would score four in the bottom of the fourth inning starting with Allan Castro scoring on an RBI groundout from Vinny Capra. After walks to Matt Thaiss and Nathan Hickey, Tsung-Che Cheng scored on a fielding error by Clippers Travis Bazzana, tying the game at three.
With the bases loaded, new Columbus pitcher Tommy Mace walked Mickey Gasper, allowing Thaiss to score and giving the WooSox their first lead at 4-3. They would add on another run before the inning ended as Hickey scored on a sacrifice fly from Kristian Campbell.
Worcester made a pitching change with the bases loaded in the top of the eighth, Devin Sweet replacing Reidis Sena. On Sweet’s first pitch, Dayan Frias singled, allowing Nolan Jones and Cooper Ingle to score to tie the game at five.
The WooSox would retake the lead with one out in the eighth on a fielding error by Clippers pitcher Steven Perez. Campbell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing Hickey to score for the second time in this game, increasing the lead to 7-5.
They would add one more in the eighth and close it out in the ninth for the 8-5 victory.
Game 3 of this series will be played tomorrow night at Polar Park in Worcester. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. ET.
