
Eastham woman dies after falling through ice; search to resume for husband
A woman died after falling through the ice while walking her dog in Eastham, Massachusetts, on Saturday morning, and a search will resume Sunday for her husband, who police believe also likely fell through the ice.
Eastham police and fire officials said officers found the woman about 30 feet from shore, screaming for help in Bee’s River around 9 a.m. after spotting a loose, wet dog on First Encounter Beach. Two officers attempted a rescue but fell through the ice themselves. Both officers made it back to shore and were taken to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation.

Massachusetts State Police trooper seriously hurt in I-95 crash; driver to face charges
A Massachusetts State Police trooper was seriously injured in a crash on Interstate 95 in Salisbury on Saturday afternoon after his cruiser was struck while stopped with emergency lights activated.
State police said the trooper had stopped on I-95 south before the Interstate 495 exit around 2:15 p.m. to remove a ladder blocking the highway. As he returned to his cruiser, another vehicle struck it. The trooper was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with several serious injuries.
The driver who hit the cruiser, identified by police as 24-year-old Josue Levi Cuevas Santana of Lawrence, was taken to Lawrence General Hospital. Police said he will be criminally summoned on charges of negligent operation, speeding, using a mobile device while driving and failure to move over for an emergency vehicle.
Snowmobile crash in Maine leaves 23-year-old woman dead
A 23-year-old woman died after crashing her snowmobile Friday in Jackman, Maine.
The Maine Warden Service said Michelle Carolina Cantos was riding with family and friends when she lost control of her snowmobile around 11:45 a.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Boston police discharge firearm during incident; suspect in custody
A police officer discharged their firearm during an incident late Saturday night in Boston, and a suspect was taken into custody.
Police said no one was shot in the incident around 10:29 p.m. in the area of 57 Cushing Avenue. The suspect was transported to a local hospital for a medical evaluation.
Rollover crash on I-95 in Falmouth, Maine, leaves one dead
A 33-year-old person died following a single-vehicle rollover crash early Thursday on Interstate 95 in Falmouth, Maine.
Maine State Police said troopers responded around 1:46 a.m. to the northbound off-ramp at mile marker 53. The driver of a Honda Accord was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved.
Two stabbed in Fall River; suspect taken into custody
Two people were stabbed Saturday afternoon in Fall River, Massachusetts, and a suspect has been taken into custody.
Officers responded around 1:30 p.m. to the 800 block of Walnut Street and found two victims in need of medical aid, according to police. The suspect was located shortly afterward. All three were transported to trauma centers for treatment of stabbing-related injuries.
Person dies after fall from tree truck in Tolland
An individual died Friday after a possible fall from a tree truck in Tolland.
Connecticut State Police, LIFESTAR and Tolland emergency services responded to the 400 block of Merrow Road on a report of a person who fell from a tree truck. The victim was found with critical injuries and life-saving measures were taken. The person later died. State police determined the fall was non-criminal.
Vehicle crashes into building in Torrington; no injuries reported
A vehicle crashed into an office building on East Main Street in Torrington on Saturday afternoon.
Officials said they received a report around 3:45 p.m. of a car striking a building. The Torrington Fire Department found the vehicle mostly inside the structure, with the rear end sticking out. No injuries were reported. Firefighters removed the driver due to the extent of the building damage. The office was closed at the time and unoccupied.
State police investigate serious pedestrian crash in Preston
State police are investigating a pedestrian crash on Route 2 in Preston that resulted in serious injuries.
The crash closed Route 2 near Route 164 Friday evening. According to officials, a vehicle struck a pedestrian. The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is investigating.

Bridgeport falls in overtime thriller at Holy Family
The University of Bridgeport men’s basketball team lost 85-84 in overtime at Holy Family on Saturday in a game that featured 22 ties and 16 lead changes.
Bridgeport received 53 bench points, had 11 players record a field goal and 10 players register at least one assist. The Purple Knights shot 22-for-28 from the free-throw line and held advantages in rebounds, 44-37, and points in the paint, 48-32.
Worcester State secures conference win over Salem State
Worcester State defeated Salem State 91-81 to strengthen its position in conference standings.
Worcester led 46-33 at halftime and maintained control in the second half. Joe Okla recorded 16 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double. The Lancers matched Salem’s scoring efforts down the stretch to secure the victory.
Emerson tops Clark in NEWMAC matchup
Emerson College defeated Clark University 81-72 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference men’s basketball game.
Jacob Armant led Emerson with 22 points. Shay Roban added 19 points off the bench. Emerson used a 20-3 second-half run to regain control and closed the game at the free-throw line.

Pirates Hall of Famer Elroy Face dies at 97
Former Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Elroy Face died in North Versailles, Pennsylvania, at age 97.
“It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Pirates Hall of Famer Elroy Face, a beloved member of the Pirates family,” Pirates Chairman Bob Nutting said. “Elroy was a pioneer of the modern relief pitcher — the ‘Baron of the Bullpen’ — and he played a critical role in our 1960 World Series championship, leading the league in appearances and recording three saves against the Yankees.”
Pirates sign José Urquidy to one-year deal
The Pittsburgh Pirates signed right-handed pitcher José Urquidy to a one-year contract for the 2026 season. Urquidy made two relief appearances with Detroit in September while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
