NEW HAVEN, Vt. — A Vermont man was arrested Saturday night after state troopers say he was caught driving drunk along a busy stretch of Route 7 in New Haven.

Vermont State Police say troopers conducted a traffic stop at about 8:31 p.m. on Jan. 18 after observing multiple motor vehicle violations near the intersection of U.S. Route 7 and South Middlebrook Road.

The driver was identified as Nicolas L. Garcia, 30, of Marshfield. Troopers say that while speaking with Garcia, they observed indicators of impairment.

Garcia was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to the New Haven Barracks for processing. He was charged with DUI #1.

After processing, Garcia was released with a citation ordering him to appear in Addison County Superior Court, Criminal Division, on March 16, 2026, at 12:30 p.m.

State police said they were assisted at the scene by the Middlebury Police Department. The case will now move through the court system.
